Empowering Lives by Giving

Flow State Impact

A Letter from the Founder

“People are feeling loved. That’s what I’m doing with the skills I have—finding ways to love on people.”
— Jason Dickens, founder of Redefined Prosthetics

I heard these words while interviewing Jason for an article I was writing for Amplitude Magazine, and they felt like a reflection of something I had long believed but hadn’t yet named. Because at its core, this is what Flow State—and Flow State Impact—has always been about.

Community over profitability, and creating spaces where individuals feel seen, valued, and loved.

I grew up with a mother who was paralyzed from the day I was born. Watching her navigate the world, anchored in strength and faith, while she kept a keen sense of humor, shaped me in ways I am still discovering. Alongside her, I watched my father dedicate his life to caring for her and our family, working full-time while showing up each day with steadiness, devotion, and love. Though they are no longer here, their commitment to care for one another and for others, lives on through this work.

Those early lessons taught me that care is not passive. It is a choice we can make daily to honor someone’s full humanity. Flow State Impact exists to “love on people” using the skills, resources, and relationships we’re building—and to invite others into that same way of living. At a time when systems are failing, healthcare is being stripped away, communities are living in fear, and funding meant to support the individuals and families most in need is vanishing, we choose to stand firmly on the side of dignity and care.

Making an impact isn’t one-size-fits-all. It is both a shared responsibility and a deeply personal one. Some of us give financially. Some give time. Some share expertise. Some use our voices to support causes we believe in. What matters most is finding one’s own unique way to participate in a philanthropic ecosystem rooted in care, empathy, and connection.

At the heart of Flow State Impact is a commitment to supporting people with mobility challenges—because I have seen firsthand how access, innovation, and thoughtful support can shape the quality of a life. This commitment is the backbone of our giving. From that foundation, our work expands organically to include mental health, education, community-based healing, and environmental stewardship—rooted in the belief that healing unfolds most fully when people feel safe, supported, and deeply connected to themselves, to one another, and to the natural world.

That belief is carried forward through every Flow State experience. Each participant chooses where 25% of their fee is directed, supporting a rotation of organizations aligned with our values. Collectively, this work expands access to movement, strengthens inclusive surf communities, supports women, youth, and families, protects the environments that restore us, and creates pathways for connection and recovery far beyond the shoreline. From local grassroots efforts to national and global initiatives, each reflects our commitment to meeting people where they are—and supporting whole lives.

We are deeply grateful to those who walk alongside us—participants, partners, and organizations—helping turn care into action and love into lasting impact.

Our Commitments

1. Access & Mobility

We prioritize initiatives that expand access to mobility, movement, and independence—supporting adaptive equipment, assistive technologies, rehabilitation, and programs that restore agency, dignity, and choice. We believe freedom of movement is foundational to quality of life, and that access should never be a barrier to belonging, opportunity, or participation in the world.

2. Community-Led Healing

We support grassroots, community-driven healing experiences grounded in nature, connection, and trauma-informed practices — believing that transformative change begins in spaces where individuals feel safe, seen, and supported. Whether through ocean-based therapy, creative expression, peer community, or culturally rooted support, we honor healing that emerges from shared belonging and collective resilience rather than from isolation.

3. Mental Health, Care & Compassion

We invest in organizations and initiatives that center mental health, caregiving, and emotional well-being—honoring both those who receive care and those who give it. We recognize healing as a relational process, one that includes families, caregivers, and support networks, and we value compassion, safety, and stability as essential to long-term resilience. In this way, we help uphold the dignity, hope, and resilience of individuals, families, and communities navigating trauma, stress, or life transitions.

4. People, Planet & Collective Responsibility

We believe personal healing and planetary health are inseparable. Our giving supports environmental stewardship, climate resilience, and initiatives that protect both natural spaces and the communities most affected by environmental harm. Caring for people also means caring for the water, land, and ecosystems they depend on—recognizing our shared responsibility to protect the world we move through together.

  • A Place Called Home

At Flow State, we believe that education is a cornerstone of opportunity, empowerment, and equity — a pathway everyone deserves access to. Since the beaches of Los Angeles are part of the Flow State Wellness Tour, we wanted to create a way for Angelenos — and those connected to this community — to extend service directly within their own backyard.

A Place Called Home (APCH) is a community-based nonprofit in South Central Los Angeles dedicated to empowering youth through education, creativity, and whole-person support. Through after-school and summer programs, academic enrichment, mentorship, and college and career preparation, APCH helps young people thrive — rooted in the belief that your zip code should not determine your future. Together, we’re investing in access, dignity, and opportunity — and in the next generation’s ability to grow, learn, and lead. Read about it here:

  • Surfrider

Our work is inseparable from the water — from oceans and coastlines to lakes and freshwater waterways. These places are where we gather, heal, and reconnect with ourselves, our communities, and the natural world. Protecting them is not optional; it’s a responsibility.

Surfrider Foundation is a grassroots organization dedicated to protecting the world’s oceans, waves, and beaches through community-powered action. From fighting plastic pollution and safeguarding water quality to advancing coastal protection and public beach access, Surfrider empowers local communities to care for the places they love — turning passion into measurable environmental impact.

By supporting Surfrider, Flow State Impact stands alongside water stewards working to ensure our coastlines and waterways remain clean, accessible, and alive — not just for today, but for generations to come. Read more here: https://www.surfrider.org/

    Purple Leash Project

The Purple Leash Project is a collaborative initiative led by Purina and the nonprofit RedRover to support domestic violence survivors and their pets. Many people escaping abusive situations delay leaving or stay in danger because they can’t take their beloved animals with them. The Purple Leash Project works to change that by helping expand the number of pet-friendly domestic violence shelters, awarding grants for renovations, providing training and resources, and raising awareness so survivors don’t have to choose between their safety and the safety of their pets.
